Its more than likely that the historical information taught in school systems about melenated folk were taught/instructed by teachers that don't even share the same ethnicity, let alone read out books by others writing/rewriting/creating the information in your public school curriculum.
One person professor of African Studies at Rutgers University, worked in opposition to the mainstream information was Dr. Ivan Van Sertima. The Guyanese scholar/author is known for his written works titled: They Came Before Coloumbs, Early America Revisited, Black Women in antiquity and more. Check out some of his work and compare it to the information we had committed as fact the grade school days.
